The Minister of Youths and Sports Wednesday launched the new National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the coming National Youth conference (NaYCONF).
The conference which supposed to have taken place placed last year was postponed due to organized 3 years Jotna protest.
Speaking during the launching ceremony Minister of Youth and Sport Hadrame Sidibeh said the conference which is organize biannually seeks to bring youths of different background in order to discussed challenges hampering their development as young people and including resolution in solving those problems.
He added that the convergence enables the youths to share their experiences and dilate on issues putting a setback on their progress. “Formally a youth week, the country’s biggest convergence has been an extraordinary remarkable space for young people to engage and interfacing government and other development partners.” He said
He added that the past event which took place in Basse (URR) in 2017 have birth to the Gambia program of Action on Youth (GPAY) adding which serves as a guide for the coming and subsequent National Youth conference (NaYCONF).
He then stated that youths are the economic backbone of any developed economy while adding who should also take part in any national economic discussion as young people.
“You are always the asset of any developed nation so you taking part in national discuss is paramount”. He said
The UNDP representative Abdou Touray in his remarks said youth occupied 65% of the country’s population stating who has the development of their country at hand. “The economic progress of any nation depends on its youth population.
He said “The economic progress of any nation depends on its youth population so it is vital we take charge of our national discourse.”
