CPA program officer calls for collective effort to protection of child rights

Fanta Badgi program officer of Child Protection Alliance has called on stakeholders to collectively cooperate and collaborate in protecting rights and welfare of children in the country

Madam Badgi was peaking on Friday in Kulari village at ten-day orientation programme for ten communities in Upper River Region.

The Italy funded project through United Nations Children’s Fund targets 50 participants including community elders like village heads and women leaders

She assured her agency’s commitment to building capacities of key actors of child protection machinery in both central and regional government levels to ensuring rights and welfare of children are protected and promoted.

“Child Protection Alliance as a body is complimenting the efforts of the Government of the Gambia to promote and protect the rights and Welfare of Children in the country,” she said.

Solomon Atibuni, monitoring, evaluation research said the objective of the orientation, is to sensitize and informed stakeholders on the importance of child protection as well as to raise the understanding of actors on child protection issues, case management and also the line and channel of children rights violation reporting and mechanisms in the region.

Mustapha S Koli, Women’s Bureau Programme Officer for Upper River Region, outlined the significance of government  of the Gambia to the protection of women, children and girls in the country.

He appealed for collaborative efforts to create a child friendly environment that guarantees the best interest of Children to assure the holistic development of children by all actors in the country.

The activity was characterized by presentations on International, Regional and Children’s Rights Instruments, Role of the Gambia Police Force, Women’s Bureau, Ministry of Health, Community Development and other Punitive Children’s and Women Rights Instruments in the country.
