The Gambia fire and rescue services on Monday received a fire fighting engine from William fire station in United Kingdom. The handing over ceremony held in Bakau brought together top officials of Gambia fire fighters.
Deputy permanent secretary of ministry of interior Louis Moses Mendy said: “the government will continue to provide the enabling environment to give them the encouragement and support where needed. ‘The government is conscious of her duties, and will continue to do its best in delivering on that duty in any form.”
Amadou Njie, deputy spokesman said: “Mr william did not only stop in trying to locate fun to bring fire appliance to the Gambia but also ensure the fire service officers who are going to use the fire engine are train on various technique.”
Chief fire officer Sang Colley Ndow who spoke at the handing over ceremony described 2019 -2020 a progressive year for his department in area of fire appliances, saying “ last year we received three fire tenders form evon fire and rescue service and last week they witness official handing over of RTA ambulances, land rover and lifesaving gears.”
He described the donation as timely and relevant to his department adding “it will go a long way in enhancing our day to day activities and to be able to respond to emergencies.”
All these achievements came under the dynamic leadership of the President Adama Barrow, he said.
He called for donation of more equipment describing the donated engine will help a lot in executing their job better
Mr Williams an officer from Williams station said the fire service is a large family around the world and the job they do in the UK is exactly the same like the one in Gambia the only different is sometimes, other countries have more of resources available to be able that make their job easier.
“I think is a duty for those countries that better resources to be able to share them with countries that have limited resources. We will like to keep the relations with the Gambia fire service and hopefully in the future provides more equipment and more trainings,” he said.
