The officials at the Communication Unit of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) led by the Unit head, Mrs. Emily Gomez this week visited six senior secondary schools within Regions One and Two.
The purpose of the visit according Mrs. Gomez was to formerly introduce the officials at the Unit, forge partnership with your school clubs and also to inform the school administrators about the mandate of the Unit within MoBSE among others.
Mrs. Gomez informed the visiting school administrators and their students about the existing of “The Gambia Education TV” and the introduction of MoBSE Newsletter called: “MoBSE Mirror”.
“This partnership will showcase your school programs and activities through the TV and the Newsletter of what you are doing in your schools so that general public will be aware of it,” Mrs. Gomez informed schools heads and students.
She emphasized that the TV will purely broadcast issues pertaining to education adding that good things are happening in schools but yet still general public are not aware of those happenings.
The Print Media Editor at MoBSE Communication Unit, Baba S. Touray informed school administrators and students that the Unit wants the schools take the ownership of MoBSE mediums.
“Already the Communication Unit has partnership with some media institutions in the country namely; QTV, Paradise TV and GRTS,” and we want to create the platform that would give students showcase their public academic talent,” he explained.
The Broadcast Producers at MoBSE Communication Unit, Ms. Tala Camara and Saidou Jallow said the aim of the Unit is to build healthy partnership with schools for public to know what is happening in schools.
They suggested that students programs need to be expose to the general public this it is the responsibility of the school administrators also to encourage various Clubs in their schools to be part of this great opportunity.
Students from Nusrat senior in the names of the head-boy of the school, Alieu Jobe, Abubakary Touray, Sira Jatta suggested the way MoBSE TV and Newsletter should be run.
According to Ms. Camara and Jallow, the culture of writing is dying in schools, but with the coming up of the TV and the Newsletter, students writing skills will be revise.
The duo explained to the school administrators how information should be flown between MoBSE Communication Unit and schools, which they asked the school administrators to identify one teacher Club coordinator to serve as focal person between the school and the Unit.
Principals of Nusrat, Mamadi Ceesay, St. Peter’s, Paul Mendy, Fatima, Pierre Sylva, Kotu senior, Sheikh Cham, Vice Principals of Mayork Upper Basic and Senior, Bakary Manneh, Kabafita Upper Basic and Senior, Lamin K. Danso all applauded MoBSE Communication Unit for the visit.
Principals described the introduction of “The Gambia Education TV” and the Newsletter called: MoBSE Mirror as timely thus assured that their students will contribute by sending in Poems, Poetries, feature articles, stories to be on both TV and the Newsletter.
The senior secondary schools visited were: Kotu, Nusrat, St. Peters’ Technical High School, Mayork Upper Basic and senior secondary Schools and Kabafita Upper Basic and Senior Secondary schools and Fatima Senior Secondary School.
