The Secretary General and Leader for United Democracy Party (UDP) have avowed that UDP as an opposition political party will not give unfilled campaign promises to Gambians.
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe was speaking at a recent UDP political rally organized by the party’s women wing of “Fangmagi Kaffo” in Brikama over the weekend.
He said the United Democratic Party has a strong political will and determination to provide for every Gambian a better living standard whenever the party he added is voted into power stating that UDP as a party will never make empty promises to the people.
“We do not believe in given out campaign promises to people that we know cannot be achieved by us as a party. In politics it is important that one say the truth so that people who will vote you into power can build confidence and trust in the party any time you want campaign for their votes.
“This is how a true political party should act, as I do not believe in the notion of deceitful politics to achieve political ambitions. So as a party if you know that yes I can achieve such development then there is no problem of voicing it out but again if you really know there is no other possibility to achieve such campaign promises then there is no need to tell the electorates, “he said
He added that UDP as an opposition party has a planned agenda for the development of women stating as majority of them who lives around the Kombos and other parts of the country are left with not portion of land to farm arguing that other meaningful financial venture should be catered for provide them with self employment opportunities.
Most of the women living around the Kombos and other parts of the country are now left with few portion of land to farm or engage into other agricultural activities because of a high demand of land for commercial ventures. So there should be a special financial venture for these women, he said.
He said the decision of the Party for going into the coalition with any party for the 2021 elections stating UDP can win the 2021 presidential election without going into any form of coalition government.
