Police Clash with Protesters

Police on Sunday clashed with Operation Three Years Jotna protesters, leaving dozens injured.

Dozens other protesters including Three Years Jotna, chairman Abdou Njie arrested.

Njie was arrested at the gate of the Kanifing hospital and others leaders were picked at the protest ground by riot police and he was first taken to Kanifing Police Station and later moved to the police intervention unit. The police later took him to Banjul.

It comes after police revoke the protesters permit. But the angry Operation Three Years Jotna protesters light tires on the Banjul-Brikama high as police continued to throw teargas on them.

Meanwhile, dozens others have been hospitalized at Kanifing general hospital. Four journalists including proprietor of Home Digital FM and station manager of King FM have been confirmed arrested a d their stations.

Speaking to Bubacarry Ceesay a protester said: “the security is complete setback adding that if a permit is issue already they should allow them to resemble. None of us knows that tear gas will be thrown at them citing that if they have known they will be well prepare. We are not here to create any violence; we are here to hold our leader accountable.”

“They knew that they are in the wrong side of the history so they don’t any other choice but to revoke the permit after starting the problem”, he said.

Ebrima Ceesay  also a protester said: “nobody has stood up against Jawara’s government neither Jammeh to ask him to resign from the office because there was no agreement but the reason why we are coming out is there was any agreement that was made and we want it to be fulfil.”

I blame the government of the day…why should allow to fire the people with tear gas as they done it first time and there was no problem, he added.
