Dawda Ceesay, President of Education Students Association (EDUSA) of University of The Gambia (UTG) has called on Gambian students to leave politics to politicians and concentrate on their academic works.
He made this statement at the Banjul Ferry Terminal on Monday 27th January, 2020 where members of his association assembled to embark on a ten days nationwide tour meant to visit twenty-two schools across the country.
“The message I have for Gambian students is very universal, as a student you should always be a learner and leave policies to policy makers, leave politics to political leaders and leave everything that is going to destabilize the nation to those who are entitle to it. As a student the disturbances you may cause today may end up disturbing your entire life because if such disturbances leads you to drop-out of school it may ruin your entire career,” EDUSA President advises Gambian Students.
He added: “As students I will advise we maintain the indoor silence we are known for and pursue the career of education we opt for to make it in life. As students that is expected of us is to ensure that what there is availability of our educational needs in pursue of our dreams.”
Ceesay also called on students to maintain discipline, respect and perseverance towards the success of the nation, adding that Gambia students should not be moved by situations that can push them into the ditch but rather be steadfast and committed to national development.
EDUSA President expressed his disappointment with Gambian Political leaders for plunging the country into a political mess, adding that it is very disappointing that people who are given the mandate to lead the change becomes the very people who are causing the political wrangling the country is experiencing today.
“I want to encourage The Gambian students to remain committed to their studies and vigorously pursue their dreams of education. Through this we will be able to shape the future of this country for generations yet unborn thus changing the status quo of this country to higher height,” EDUSA President disclosed.
