The organizing committee of Sutukoba Kankiling Festival in collaboration with the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) Thursday organized a press conference to discuss the forthcoming 3rd edition of the famous and unique Sutukoba Kankinling Festival slated for 7th and 8th February, 2020 in Wuli, Upper River Region (URR).
Speaking at the conference, Sheikh Omar Jallow, Director for Literature, Creative and Performing Arts of NCAC gave an in-depth background of the festival.
He as well discussed about the importance of the festival especially in term of developing a community base tourism in the provinces.
He said “we have to develop products that will warrant tourists to take a bush taxi from Senegambia to Sutukoba.”
According to him there must be products and cultural heritages that must move such tourists from Senegambia to go all the way to the provinces,” he added.
He discussed criteria of imbibing festival to Gambia cultural festival this he said include sustainability of such festival.
Kakibi Yaffa, PRO of Sutukoba Festival organizing committee, said the festival has been happening for the past two years and this year will be the third edition.
He added that Sutukoba Kankiling has unique history that they want to preserve for the future.
He stated among other objectives that Sutukoba Kankinling Festival is to bring the community under one umbrella and federate the people.
Almamy Jabbie, member of the organizing committee, said the sustainability of the festival will be assured noted that “there are many heritages in Sutukoba community the histories are not artificial but factual.”
