A wildfire has swelled through the home of former President Yahya Jammeh in Kanilai, Army informed The Voice Newspaper.
Speaking to the voice in an interview, army spokesman Major Lamin Sanyangsaid the fire destroyed vast area of the residence but that no casualty reported.
“The community has been battling with the fire since yesterday morning until in the afternoon when I receive a call informing me that they have been fighting the fire in Kanilai which was able to enter former president Jammeh’s compound,” Major Sanyang said.
“Commanding officer of Kanilai Battalion, Lt. Col. Ebrima Krubally, said the fire started last Monday from Alla Kunda end and headed towards Kanilai.
He said they have made all efforts to control and off the fire but restarted again Tuesday morning.
