To make 2020 Independent Anniversary sports a success, the office of the “Desk Officer for Sports” Musa Mendy under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) with the support from the Regional Education Directorates (RED) and their Sports Coordinators across the country completed the selection of athletes within Lower Basic School category.
The qualified athletes from all the Regions according to Mr. Mendy are to finally come over to Banjul on Sunday ahead of the Tuesday’s Independent Anniversary Celebration.
On their arrival in Banjul on Sunday from provinces, Regions (3-6) will be camp at Friendship Hostel in Bakau, Region (2) at Siffoe Lower Basic School. Region (1) qualified athletes are currently conducting their daily training at Latri-Kunda Yirinyanya Lower Basic School.
This year’s championship will take place at the Independent Stadium in Bakau and prizes will be awarded to individual athlete. There will be Consolation prizes to be awarded to deserving people while individual Regions will also be awarded based on their performance at the championship.
MoBSE “Desk Officer for Sports” Musa Mendy on behalf of his team and the entire workforce within MoBSE commends the Gambia Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union (GTUSSC) and Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) for sponsoring the Lower Basic School 2020 athletic championship both in cash and in trophies.
In another development, the office of the “Desk Officer for Sports” is also hereby informing the public that the selection process for the Senior Secondary School athletes is currently underway across the length and breadth of the country.
This year’s Senior Secondary School athletic championship is slate for March 2020 at the Independent Stadium in Bakau.
