 PEC Adopts SSHFC Report

National Assembly select committee on Public Enterprise on Thursday approved Social Security Housing and Financial Cooperation’s annual report and financial Statements for the year 2018, for further scrutiny.

Speaking during the consideration, Hon.Halifa Sallah, Chairman of the Public Enterprise Committee said: “the national assembly establishes a committee, with the responsibility of ensuring that public enterprises are accountable to the national Assembly.”

He also addressed the SSHFC Board Members that their housing scheme should be designed to provide houses to people who cannot afford houses like others.

“And in performing their duty, they should ensure all public enterprises purse their mandate, from the basis of promoting efficiency and transparency, “he said

“To guarantee that transparency of public enterprises is required within three months of the end of each financial year, to summit an annual report to the National Assembly on their business and operations during the preceding year,” he added.

He stated that the Public Finance Act has not been respected in the past and the Committee has the duty to expand its duty to scrutinise the financial statements of PE.

According to him, it is important that in caring out their mandate they are guided not by the constitution but also by the act that establishes public enterprises.

He said Federated Pension Fund for public enterprises employees, Housing Fund, Industrial Injuries Pension Fund and National Provident Fund for private institutions.

“We want to move closer to putting an end to the backlog in the submission of annual reports and financial statements”, he said

He noted that the exercise is the beginning of the process of engagement for making the Public enterprise vibrant institutions that will benefit the people.

Hon. added that it is important to capture the number of people under the current scheme.
