GCAA presents report before house committee

Gambia civil Aviation Authority on Monday Present its activity report and financial statement for the year ended 2018 to Public Enterprise Committee at the National Assembly.

Gambia civil Aviation Authority are responsible in Regulating Civil Aviation and the Air Transport Industry in the Gambia, Operating and Managing Banjul International Airport which includes, among others, providing and maintaining required infrastructure and facilities and providing air navigation services.

Speaking during the presentation, Catherine Nying, Deputy Director General of GCAA said the annual activity report for 2018 is fulfilment of GCAA’s obligation for the civil aviation summit.

“We value safety and security of our customers and totally committed in enhancing comfort of our customers,” she added.

She also said the report gave an over view of the authority’s activities, challenges, proceedings and policies over the period.

“The report in is 5 parts which include; human resource, organizational structure of the authority, air transport review, operational review regulatory review and 2018 financial statement”, she stated.

Nying further said civil aviation is overseen by the ministry of Transport, work and infrastructure.

She explained that the authority took over the functions of the defunct Department of Civil Aviation of the Gambia and now enjoys the status of autonomous body like other public enterprises reporting to the Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure through the Authority’s Board of Directors.

Mrs. Nying stated that the department commerce is responsible for the maximum exploitation of the commercial potentials of the GCAA, and that of B.I.A in particular with a view to expanding the revenue base of the organization through improvement on under-tapped revenue sources and the identification and activation of untapped revenue sources.

the department develops and plays a leading role in the marketing of B.I.A as a potentially attractive destination for airlines. It is also charged with the revenue collection in aeronautical activities and to appraise investments in non-aeronautical activities, she said.
