Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education warns private schools’ owners against operating ‘illegally’

The ministry of basic and secondary education has issued owners, coordinators, and operators of private schools a stern warning to desist from operating illegally, disregard for national curriculum, not registering students for exams, hiring unqualified teachers and failure to put in place standard recording system.

The ministry in a press release said: “the ministry of Basic and Secondary Education hereby warns proprietors, coordinators and operators of private schools to desist from practices such as: illegal operations, disregard for national curriculum, not registering students for exams [NAT, GABECE,WASSCE] hiring teachers who do not have the required qualifications, not putting in place a standard recording system.”

The afore-mentioned practices violate the education act and the regulations governing the operation of private schools, it added.

“Disciplinary measures will be taken against those who fail to comply in this regard, the ministry would seize this opportunity to thank encourage those proprietors who are complying and complimenting the ministry’s effort in providing quality education to every child in the Gambia,” the release ended.
