The head of cooperate affairs and public relation officer of Gambia’s leading GSM company (Africell) has refuted allegations of the company using threats on media houses that country biggest GSM company advertise with.
“We have never used our financial strength as a leading GSM company to threaten media institutions against publishing anything that may concern Africell as a company”.
“They have their duty as media houses to be ethical and be free to publish anything they feel is genuine and have a public interest and beside this I am also a pressman like them. So Africell will never use their financial measles to threaten media houses on adverts contract given to them for advertisements. That will never happen, “he said.
Musa Sise, made the clarification on west coast radio coffee time Show with peter Gomez following a recent press conference legal action threats and accusations levied against the mobile company by the Gambia consumer protection consortium CPC on the alleged cheating of unlimited data bundle of its subscribers including the using of financial measles against media houses it signed advertisement contracts with against publishing issue that might negatively involve the GSM company.
“If the CPC have all the allegation facts put against us in their recent press conference then they are free to go courts because courts are here for all of us. And we also go there to defend ourselves.
Africell have decided since we received instructions from PURA to refund all those subscribers who might be affected with the unlimited data bundle issue. So, if the CPC feels anything uncomfortable on our side then they are free to go to courts which we will also defend as a company,” he added.
He claimed the recent unfounded accusations levied against the company by some social media users as intended to destroy the good image of the company which he argued is still dominating the country’s GSM company industry.
