Minister of Agriculture has assured her ministry’s support to women gardeners in Kinteh Kunda Janneya in Lower Baddibu after wild fire destroyed their vegetable crops.
A wild fire last week destroyed dozens of gardens plots in Kinteh Kunda.
Speaking to the gardeners, Amie Fabureh said: “this is an emergency situation and it needs to be addressed this situation immediately, of course there is a need for a need assessment. Ministry will seat and discuss how best we can extend help to these people immediately.”
She added: “Of course, it will take some time because we need to do proper procurement studies so that we can have quality fencing materials.
I feel bad since i visited this garden; these women are doing a lot because looking at the area is all green. There is no concrete Wells or boreholes around, they depend on their own local Wells to produce vegetables, she said.
She revealed that the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) is currently constructing another garden for the community that will be well fenced with adequate water supply, adding that this will go a long way in mitigating the perennial troubles of fire outrage at community gardens across the country.
According to Marang Kinteh, women leader, they alerted at around 12-1pm that there was a fire outbreak at the women’s garden, this was the time we rushed here to find out what happened but sadly we met lot of women crying and yelling.
She said: “we are very happy to receive the minister of agriculture together with the minister of Information and Forestry. These visits by the minister’s show us how concern the government is towards our predicament, we need their support and the support of anyone can intervene on our behalf.”
