Lamin Darboe, 34, on Monday asked Barrow-led government to scrap off the State Intelligent Service and amalgamate the unit to other state security forces of the country.
Lamin Darboe testifying before TRRC told the commissioners at the end of his testimony: “what I want is for government to scrap off the state intelligent unit whether NIA or SIS let government destroyed all.”
“No one at NIA is clean. All the dirty activities that happened to Gambians were done by SIS . For hearing the name of SIS is hurting even if they hadn’t done anything to you. Let them attached or amalgamated to other security forces, “he added.
However, Mr Darboe, unqualified nurse detailed how he was fiercely attacked by an NIA officer and one Jawo who is personnel of Gambia police over former president Yahya Jammeh’s operation cleans the nation after he had an exchange of words with a woman.
Former president Yahya Jammeh in his second decade of rule, launched an operation dubbed ‘set-setal’ which every first and last Saturday of a month was dedicated to nationwide cleansing exercise.
And stringent laws were mounted on people found operating businesses on the day different from cleansing especially market vendors who failed to participate in the cleansing exercise.
“The third slap I fought with him and the green-green boys who were cleansing came and they started beating me, some were beating me with their pipes while others were kicking mw with their combat boots. Another police officer named Jawo came and the man told him I insulted Yahya Jammeh over the ‘set-setal’ and Jawo slapped me and call to demand additional police intervention unit,” he explained to commissioners.
