Speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview Dodou Jah said: “this registration that is in the making for voter registration will definitely need sensitization so that people will know, does that are eligible to have Gambian documents.”
There is a lot of a tussle even in the first fair when we conducted this electoral reform process, one thing to do away with that the ballot box or marbles ushering in ballot paper is definitely not going down well with almost all the political parties and even more Gambians, he said.
He urged political parties to look at the interest of the people as a whole, adding that “it shouldn’t be based on party politics, its way beyond that because government come and go but when laws are made it touches peoples live even does that are not into politics some of the laws have effect on them.”
He said for this electoral act reforms to last long political parties have to accept the will of the people when it comes to the voting process that is in place, adding “Because elections are sensitive, a system that we know I think is better to stick with it, changes will occur but it need time, especially for voter sensitization they need to tell the people the process.”
Gambia as a nation we know must of the people who vote are not well acquainted with most of the process that are in other countries, so we must give it time and sensitize and educate people about it, he said.
