CBG says Food Inflation in Gambia Picks 1 Percent Rise

 

The Gambia’s food inflation picks 1 percent increase since 2020 begun which has been laid on global increase in food like bread cereals, meat, oil and fats.

In 2019, Gambia experienced fluctuating pricing in bread and other consumable goods. And a rice being the most consumable food in the country, bag, stands at D1,200.

According to quarterly report of Central Bank of Gambia’s monetary policy committee, food inflation increased to 7.92 percent in January 2020 from 6.19 percent in January 2019 due to the increase in bread cereals, meat, oil and fats.

But governor of the bank Bakary Jammeh told journalists during a news conference: “non-food inflation, on the other hand, decelerated to 6.77 percent in January 2020.”

The price indices of al the sub-components of services deceased with the exception of transportation, hotels and miscellaneous goods and services, he added.

And meanwhile The Gambia’s current domestic debts picks at D32.86 billion from 31.88 billion.
