A man who claimed to have been contracted with 19 youth to clear grasses within and around Gambia Civil Aviation Authority has accused the Institution of owing them their payment.
Ebrima Fanneh who was a grass clearer at the Institution was speaking on behalf of his colleagues expressed while he expressed disappointment over the situation.
He revealed Lamin Jammeh, a grade 12 student of Mingdaw Senior Secondary School lost his lives while following his payment with GCAA, saying that no staff of GCAA pays condolence to his family nor pay him.”
According to him, the victims include him, Alagie Singhateh, Sainey Sumareh, Buba Jatta, Adama Fofana, Pabi Manjang, Buba Manjang, Buba Sanyang, Amadou Leigh, Lamin Sonko, Jerry Sonko, Muhammed Drammeh, Ebrima Jallow, Pabi Saho, Bakary Sanyang, Lamin Jammeh, and Abdoulie Jallow.
“I was contracted by Lamin Danso, the Airport Site Officer to clear grasses within the airport and around the perimeters of the runway area. I hired twenty youths to work with me on this job, but since we finished our job in early January, we have been going to the GCAA office to get our money every time to no avail,” he said.
He expressed: “we are very disappointed. I mobilized twenty youths for the work each of whom should be paid D400 per day for twenty-four days. We suppose to work for twenty-five days but one of our boys who were running away from a snake-bite was hit by a speeding car resulting to his death.”
He added: “It is very unfortunate, Lamin Jammeh, a grade 12 student of Mingdaw Senior Secondary School, he was with us so that he can raise some money for his schooling but unfortunately since this incident occurred GCAA never dares to visit the family to pay their condolences. If they cannot sympathize with us, at least let them pay us our monies to take care of our own business, most of us are from poor families and we so badly need our money.”
Meanwhile, The Voice Newspaper contacted Gambia Civil Aviation where a staff of the institution said the story is news to her. She couldn’t respond to the allegations and declined to provide contact to GCAA public relations officer.
