The Lord Mayor of Banjul has called for concerted efforts as well as sensitization to fight against the deadly coronavirus epidemic.

Honorable Rohey Malick Lowe made the call on Wednesday saying “I have realized that Gambians are panic already following the confirm case of the corona virus in Senegal.”

Again, she said, “I have observed that this virus is spreading and Gambians including Banjulians need sensitization.”

Lord Major explained that, since the outbreak of coronavirus and especially when she heard about the first confirmed case in Africa, she took it upon herself to call Ministers to be alert on the issue.

Among other steps taken by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, she noted, that he had visited all the necessary entry points which included Port Authority, entry borders, international airport and discussed with them and as well conducted tour around the places.

She therefore appealed to the people of Banjul to take preventive measures by practicing personal hygiene, adding that “I’m not a health personnel but it is outlined by WHO that one should avoid coughing or sneezing without covering mouth, regular washing of hands with soap intermittently and use face mask among other preventive measures.”

Meanwhile, she urged everyone not to be scared but with hygiene and prayerful.
