A man who has claimed to be an ex APRC divisional adviser has said he regretted rendering support to former President Yahya Jammeh.
Basiru Gassama speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview on Tuesday said “I have no hate for Yahya Jammeh in fact he took me to Mecca, but that was the will of God. Beside that people like us were the first supporter of the former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh.
The most valuable national respect he could have achieved as a former President was to respect and agreed on his defeat. But his immediate changed of decision was not just of him but people who have surrounded him – for their selfish-interest.”
He expressed that he didn’t make a u-turn because of hatred but “because of how he was ruling the country. And in fact, when he and his co-solider came to power what they said was that they are soldiers with different but where have we ended with them as a country,” he asked rhetorically.
He urged APRC party to apologies to Gambians and join hands with other national parties to support the development course of the country. He opined that Gambia is a nation of peace which does not want to fall under example of countries marred with political violence.
Gassama said The Gambia should be nation of all Gambians and this can simply be when politicians in the country join hands together and make the nation their first interest before their own parties.
He however advised security forces to rally behind national interest and put the security interest of the country first before any personal ambition.
“I will talk on the issue of national security because we are seeing the ongoing revelations at the TRRC which I think need a serious reform of our security services in order to protect the integrity of our nation. Imagine the ongoing circulation of audios threatening our security system. So, this should not serve as mere security threats but a concern to the government,” he noted.
