KMC calls for precautionary measures against Coronavirus

The Lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council has called on everyone to take precautionary measures in protecting themselves against the deadly coronavirus which is creating fear across the world.

The Lord Mayor made this clarion call through a signed statement issued by his office on Tuesday, 3rd March.

According to the statement, Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda has highlighted possible ways in which COVID 19 of the new corona virus can be transmitted and those that are more likely to be infected. Statement stated that older people with respiratory problems and weakened immune systems are most susceptible to be infected with the virus. A total of 87,137 cases have been recorded across 58 countries as of 1 March 2020.

The statement added the that “these symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but do not develop any symptoms and do not feel unwell. Most people about 80% recover from the disease without needing special treatment.”

The announcement further added that signs such as fever, tiredness, Dry cough and shortness of the breath can be term as most common form of COVID 19 corona virus which can also catch by people from individuals infected with the disease through a droplet from the nose or mouth.

“The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are open when a person with COVID 19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person which can be transmitted by touching the objects,” he said.

Ebrima Gassama the Public Relation Officer of Kanifing Municipal Council said the purpose of the council releasing a statement on the latest development of the corona virus is to give latest information concerning measures of preventing oneself from the disease.

“The council will continue to work with communities and partners to acquire accurate information and make it available for the well-being of the public,” he said.
