EFSTH PRO Accuses Journalists of Peddling False News

Kebba Sanneh, Public Relations Officer at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital has accused journalists of peddling false news against the Ministry of Health over the issue of coronavirus.

“You go and read the disparaging reports written against this honorable man on Freedom Newspaper and everywhere, you foolish journalists are trying to put wrong information across this nation confusing the people. Now, am trying to tell you that your story you wanting to verify is a false story,” he said in a telephone interview.

He said: “You see the current Minister of Health is an overseer, an overseer takes care of the position without necessarily occupying that position. Now am going to debunk some of the false news trending over the social media and some of the online newspapers.”

He cited the hospital Act saying the position of the Chief Medical Director cannot be occupies by any person who does not have a qualification as a consultant for five good years.

“Now (you) name one Gambian who has a doctorate qualification and serve as a medical officer, a registered medical doctor and to consultant to become a holder of CMD position, this is the act, now (you) name (me) one Gambian who has such a qualification,” the furious PRO asked rhetorically.

However he said they are contacting Gambians abroad and here, in this country, that “these Petty Doctors who came from Cuba and other places are the ones calling you and giving you wrong information. They have no qualifications whatsoever to occupy such a position of the Chief Medical Director of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, now if you know one of them who can handle the position tell me?”

“You Know why? I’m very disgusted with what is been reported on some of these foolish media because you are not responsible, you don’t investigate, you tarnishing the image of innocent people. I’m angry, I’m very angry because I’m coming from that meeting now,” Sanneh said.
