“I was informed that there is a fire outbreak at Bakoteh dumpsite, and the municipal reported that 3 trespassers who were identified as minors were immediately informed the National Fire service. But Kotu Fire Service responded but the fire has spread and was out of control as it engulfed the recycled cans and other recycled materials,” he explained.

He disclosed that they have discussed with the Director General of Gambia Public Procurement Authority and requested that they should reactivate emergency measures to start construction of a perimeter fence and identify a waste process partner.

He said further that the people of Bakoteh are tired and frustrated because they have been complaining about this situation for the past two decades, while the council has put the matter into consideration and planned a number of interventions including a perimeter wall (of which are the council’s 2020 Budget) and work with a Waste Processing partner of which has 8 interested parties.

He further disclosed some of his relentless efforts over the place which include communicating with some Ministries in finding solution to it.

Administrative head of KMC Sainabou Martin Sonko, reiterated that the fencing issue is already in process while urged the Gambia Public Procurement Authority to fast tract the contract award.
