Fatou Darboe Gomez, Leader of Peace and Stability the Gambia has unequivocally defended the activities of her organization in embarking on Coronavirus sensitization initiatives in Banjul and other regions of the country against the spread of the deadly novel Coronavirus.
Peace and Stability The Gambia is a local organization born out of the political wrangling that ensued in the country in late 2019 to early 2020, when the disband pressure group ‘Operation Three Years Jotna’ demands the resignation of President Adama Barrow against the backdrop of his 2016 campaign promises.
“This initiative is that we launching here in Banjul is part of a nationwide campaign with the sole intention of helping in the sensitization efforts currently ongoing in the country in a bid to save our people. There is no time for politics for now, this is the time for every Gambians to come together and initiate fights against the deadly Coronavirus pandemic,” said Mrs Fatoumata Darboe Gomez.
According to her, health is an important aspect of peace and stability of the country an ideal that Peace and Stability The Gambia is anchored on. Based on the above, she said it is the reason why the association came out to create awareness by sensitizing the general public to adhering to the best practices spelt out by World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.
“This sensitization campaign will last for seven days across the region we visit every region of the country to raise their awareness on prevention of Coronavirus pandemic. This is to manifest our small contribution towards the elimination of this disease in the country as well as to compliment the efforts of the government,” Madam Henry Gomez disclosed.
She added: “I want to remind every Gambian to take this disease very seriously as it already entered our country. This disease is a killer disease, let us put our trust on health workers and take their advices very serious.”
She reminded people among the guidelines to suspend handshakes, avoid sneezing in the open in public and keep on washing our hands regularly as this will surely protect people from the virus.
She emphasised that the association is a non-political group that encompasses people from all political diverse in the country. She noted that the country just like other countries has no time for politics but to close ranks and work together in preventing the population against the deadly coronavirus.
Abdulahi Mendy, propaganda secretary for the association said the outbreak of the deadly disease has necessitated the association from staging a colorful launching through embarking on a nationwide sensitization tour to counter the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He added that the overall idea is to raise awareness among the people to know that Coronavirus is real and is here so that people will know how to prevent themselves from contacting the disease.
“This has nothing to do with politics; you haven’t see any political party leader here neither party colors or any religious leader or whatsoever. We doing this for Gambian people but if anyone thinks what we are doing is politics then that is your own perspective but clearly that is not our intention,” Mendy emphasized.
The sensitization campaign also led the association to The Gambia Ports Authority, Ferry Terminal where they offered free sanitizers to passengers as well as encourage them to wash their hands before leaving the terminal to their various destinations.
