GCCPC warns business owners over price hiking

Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC) has strictly warned businesspeople to desist from price hiking.

GCCPC said in a statement: “ The Commission is strictly warning all business whether wholesaler or retailers to refrain from indulging in trade practices that bring about manipulation of prices or condition of delivery or affect the flow of supplies in the market relating to goods or services in such a manner as to impose on the consumers unjustified cost or restrictions.”

“Any business found wanting for violation the above provision of the Gambia Consumer Protection Act, 2014, will be seriously dealt with according to law,” the statement said.

GCCPC however assure consumers that “there is no need for rushing or panic buying of basic food commodities because there is enough stock that can last for a long period of time.”

It is hope that before the end of that period, the corona virus (Covid-19) will be under control and things will be back to normal,” the statement added.
