Since the ban of public gathering, close of Schools and Universitiesby the government of the Gambia for twenty-one days in an effort to contain further spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, still there is no effect of the ban in some communities.
Many communities across all regions in the country including the Greater Banjul Area still not respect the ban hence social gatherings like, weeding, christening and marriage ceremonies are still holding.
Meanwhile, thousands of people are still not observing the World Health Organisation’s precautionary measures as people continue giving deaf ears to the rules/guidelines which are preventive measures against the deadly virus.
The WHO earlier this month declared the coronavirus asa global pandemic which has no medication so far, but scientists across the world are working hard to provide vaccine forthe deadly virus.
Since the emergence of the virus in China last December, at least more than 10,000 people have so far succumbed to the virus whiles thousands of people are infected with it.
Alieu Bah, a Junior School teacher, who spoke to TheVoice, said the situation now is panicking because many people are not adhering to the guidelines as giving by the Ministry of Health, plus the ban on public gathering by the government.
He stated that “despite the border closure, still people are entering the country and also the rural people are observing social gatherings to observe naming, marriage, and wedding ceremonies.”
Meanwhile, he called on government to help rural communities and provide them with protective gears and hand sanitisers as well as buckets to various villages.”
