Vendors make high sale on hand sanitizers amid COVID-19

As Coronavirus pandemic continued creating panic among the people, number of businesswomen engage in selling of hand sanitizers including other sanitary materials in The Gambia has disclosed the increase growing on the business.

Many in an interview with The Voice said demand in hand sanitizers and other sanitary materials meant to avoid possible infection of coronavirus pandemic has being on high sale since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic especially from when the country registered its first case of the virus.

Kaddy Manneh a vendor at West Field said she engages in the business due to the growing demand of these items from the people. Kaddy did not only look for her daily profit but including the health priority of citizens.

Since she joined in raising awareness of people through selling of the sanitary items, she said she is able to make sales worth of D5, 000 everyday as she can sell two cartons of them before ending of the day

“Every day I am able to sell two cartons with hand sanitizers which totals to D5, 000. And in every carton, you have 24 bottles of hand sanitizers. So, I can say business is going well,” she said.

Mben Touray a business woman who also engages in the sale of hand sanitizers and other preventive items said she leaves her initial business to join in selling hand sanitizers because the business has taken over the entire market.

“The business is going normal at this moment but the current price charged on every bottle of hand sanitizer has increase because of the border closure. I was doing a different business before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as everyone has switched to selling of hand sanitizers and other preventive items being a new sought-after business,” she said.
