Economist Urges Gov’t to Allocate Funding to Media Houses

Gambian Economist Morro Gaye has urged President Adama Barrow to instruct his finance and economic affairs and Information and Communication ministers to urgently allocate funding to all media houses amid COVID-19 pandemic.

“The government of Ghana, Senegal just to name a few are supporting their citizens and businesses, in this trying time of the outbreak to enable them to buy food throughout the lockdown period. For the media especially the print, it will be very difficult if government not support. And considering the print media, the production from gathering the news, editing and printing is very expensive,” he said.

Gaye said his position is not to dictate the government of President Adama Barrow, but to advise the government on responsible management of the affairs of the nation.

He further said that the Information and Communication minister should has raised the concern of media at the cabinet emergences meetings on COVID-19 pandemic at State House.

“Journalists are covering and updating thought their various media platforms and they are not protested by the organisers of those events especially the ministry of health.  The government should urgently allocate funding to all media houses before Friday,” he urged.
