Gov’t clarifies public state of health emergency

The Gambia government has on Wednesday clarified public state of health emergency as measures to prevent spread on coronavirus in the country.

President Adama Barrow on Friday 27 March 2020, declared a seven-day public state of health emergency.

And in a statement signed by government spokesperson, Ebrima Sankareh, said: “Following President Barrow’s proclamation of state of public emergency on Friday 27 March 2020 wishes to clarify areas of public life affected by the emergency powers regulations.

“Specifically, and for purposes of clarity and effective compliance, all forms of bars, casinos, and gaming palours, cinemas and video clubs, events halls, Gymnasia, stadia, night clubs, public swimming pools, sporting areas are deemed none essential and shall remain closed to the public.”

“Equally all public gatherings like Ataya rendezvous and street gatherings of more than 5 people are strictly restricted. Restaurant shall remain open for the singular for purpose of selling food for take away purposes. Owners shall ensure a distance of two meters between two peoples.

“Salons or barber shops shall remain open in so far as they are located outside the markets and owners shall ensure that not more than two persons are present withing the premises at a given time,” the statement added.

“Significantly all non-food outlets in all markets throughout the country and within the one-hundred-meter radius of a market shall be closed. Such outlets can only operate some one hundred meters outside the market. That food vendors and traders of any food shall operate between the hours of 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day.
