 COVID-19: Health Minister Updates NAMs

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmadou Samateh on Friday updated National Assembly members on the current situation of the country position on coronavirus pandemic.

“We have four positive cases so far, one person died, two recovered and one is under treatment at the government treatment center. By statistic 88 people  are in quarantine, 162 completed quarantine, 310 individual complete fellows up, 233 contact were trace and the total number of tests conducted 128, four were positive, 123 were tested negative, and one inconclusive test”, he  told lawmakers in Banjul.

Minister Samateh, disclosed that presently there is only one testing center in The Gambia and is at Medical Research Council (MRC) adding that MRC is world renown and establish research center, saying that even in the developing country quiet a number of testing are done in the research centers because that is center work.

He also told lawmakers that his  ministry has started some assessment at Kuto central lap to do the testing in that center, revealing  that they have identify about three centers in some part of the country in order to reduce transportation of sample from one place to another.

He further revealed that there are ten isolation centers and the treatment center two at MRC with two rooms for treatment and the sanitarian which is the main treatment center with 42 beds.

“The World Bank project is going to build a brand-new state of infectious disease treatment center within short period. The other treatment centers we are going to build will be temporal,” Minister Samateh to members of Parliament.

He added: “The pandemic of COVID-19 which is going around the world we believe in The Gambia and we should thank the almighty God for given us this period that we consider as a grace period and we continue to pray  that it t continue.

This period should not be wasted and miss and whatever we do we need to react very fast to take a decision.”
