The Gambia Future Now has donated 3 motorcycles and 300 hand pumps with tool kits and spare parts to the area mechanic for maintenance in Farafenni.
The group also donated 200 handwashing containers and sanitizer to control COVID-19 to people of Sabach Sanjal all geared towards strengthen the capacity of Area Mechanic to repair hand pump at no cost to the communities.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, project director of the group, Ousman Bah, expressed gratitude for giving back to the community as part of gesture to complementing government’s effort in national development.
He hailed the partnership between The Gambia Now NGO and Department of Water Resources on the assessment community hand pump across the region.
“The maintenance of water pump would obviously help to address acute shortage and boost hand washing with soap to control the spread of COVID-19,” he said.
He added: “The support to Area Mechanic target to fix 300 hand pumps as water is essential. He added that fencing materials would be supply to the same communities to boost vegetable production on 25 x 25m land.”
Batch Samba Cham commended the initiative and said the support of providing assistance to people would contribute to improve health and wellbeing of the communities. He said quality portable water supply would help to improve hygiene and the repair of pump would help to control the spread of COVID-19.
Nyakasi Gassama of Department of Water Resources said “the quality of repair kits provided is of quality and standard.” He affirmed that provision of three motorcycles will address repair of hand pumps.
Pa Abdou Bouye ward councillor for Sabach applauded the donor while Ebou Sinyan on behalf of the Area Mechanic commended them for the supports.
