The Management of Gamtel/Gamcel has handed over a cheque for D300,000 to the Ministry of Health as part of their efforts to join in fighting against the COVID-19 in the Country.
Speaking at the presentation held at the Ministry of Health, Banjul, Madikay Njie, Public Relations Officer for Gamtel, said: “the donation is part of the Companies social corporate responsibility towards the fight against COVID -19 in The Gambia. He said the virus is causing serious havoc to the World economy and as well death which The Gambia is not an exception.”
As the government is doing everything possible to create the funds to curb Covid-19, he said such efforts from the government need to be complimented at all levels as all hands must be put on deck through preventive measures to tackle the pandemic.
Lamin Tunkara, Deputy Managing Director for Gamtel, disclosed “Gamtel/Gamcel family has been supporting the Ministry of Health over the years in different areas.”
He therefore urged the Ministry of Health to wisely utilize the money wisely while he thanked them to continue the good work amid COVID -19.
Momodou Lamin Jaiteh Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health described the contribution of Gamtel/Gamcel as a good gesture noting that they have never been left behind towards the advancement of the health sector.
He said the contribution of Gamtel/ Gamcel has been recognized and they have demostrated their social corporate responsibility and the assistance will help to address the threats of COVID-19 in the country.
