Group donates sanitary materials to 115 communities

Future In Our Hand The Gambia FIOHTG, a non-governmental group has distributed sanitary materials including handwashing containers, detergent to 155 communities in an effort to fight against the coronavirus. The beneficiary villages included Upper Nuimi, Jokadou, Lower and Central Badibou.

Ebrima Drammeh, program officer at Future In Our Hand – The Gambia, said the items distributed to 115 communities which included hand washing containers and sanitizer is meant for the people adopt, uphold hygiene and social distancing which are the only way to control and avoid the spread of virus.

He said distribution of materials would help communities to champion the WHO guidelines on practices COVID-19.

He said his agency would continue to support government and assist farmers in their intervention villages to improve lives and livelihood of the people. “Recently a total of D137,000 were disbursed to 8 communities to kick start cereal banking to help address food shortages during the peak period in the rainy season.”

The scheme would strengthen community capacity and buy cereal from each other and by extension create market linkages for farm produce, he said.

Musa Kanteh, deputy governor for NBR thanked the NGO for their support and solidarity to the fight against COVID-19.

Malamin IL Bojang chairman Kerewan Area Council, Chief Momodou Chatty Cham of Upper Nuimi Mamadi Jawara Officer In Charge of Kerewan Health Centre all made remarks and thanked the agency for the donations.
