The Ministry of Health on Monday informed member of press corps that part of World Bank millions dollar fund will be used to build treatment centres across the country.
The World Bank recently gave $10 million to government of The Gambia as a help to fight against the deadly coronavirus pandemic in the country. Since then, scores of Gambians both home and abroad take on the government to explain the whereabouts of the fund and how they would spend it.
But speaking to press members at the daily coronavirus pandemic press briefing daily update, Dr Ahmadou Samateh, Minister of Health said concerning “the World Bank support – World Bank is constructing for us what we call an emergency or infectious diseases treatment centres.”
According to him, the Ministry of Lands has already allocated a land for the centre somewhere in Brusubi, a town in the outskirt of Gambia’s commercial city, Serrekunda.
“And initially because we want to do some of these first so that just in case there is increase in cases – so temporal structures will be built very soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Samateh said part of the fund will also be used for media sensitisation on coronavirus pandemic and procurement of sanitary materials. He added that part of the fund will also be used by the police in their patrol on borders.
