The Gambia’s coronavirus pandemic case has jumped to 9 this was confirmed Saturday by the Ministry of Health. But two from the four preceding cases recovered, one died while one is under treatment. This means now the country has 6 active cases of the virus.
The announcement came weeks after the Ministry announced the discharged of the patients and some number of the people quarantined.
Speaking in a press conference, Minister of Heath, Dr Amadou Samateh, said in summary “The Gambia has recently registered 5 confirmed COVID-19 cases, currently the country has 6 active cases, 2 of which were locally transmitted.”
“A total of 76 new laboratory test results have been received recently, five were positive, one inconclusive and 70 were negative, two of the confirmed cases were in quarantine and later on home isolation, two are from recent travel from the United Arab Emirates,” he added.
He said: “One other confirmed case was in quarantine and also later on home isolation on account of recent travel from United Kingdom
“The remaining two confirmed cases are still in quarantine they have close contacts with the fourth confirmed case.”
The Gambia government has extended State of Emergency to 45 days in an effort to curb the spread of the virus
