As part of institutional Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR), the Gambia Banker Association (GBA) has presented a cheque for D3million (Three Million Dalasi) to the Ministry of Health and municipalities to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Tuesday, 14th April the association presented the cheque to The Gambia vice president Dr Isatou Touray at a ceremony held in the State House. The event was attended by cabinet Ministers, Governor of Central Bank, Accountant General and among other members of the ministerial committee for COVID-19.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the government of The Gambia Dr Isatou Touray expressed her profound gratitude over the cheque presented by the Gambia Banker Association.
VP Touray went on to describe the gesture as a giant contribution towards the fight against Covid-19, while extending President Barrow’s total appreciation over the presented cheque towards the fight against the deadly pandemic that is spreading across the whole world.
She disclosed that the presentation is just begins of many that government is expecting to see. She went on that the pandemic is a big fight on health, socio economic with political implication.
There is no doubt, according to her, no country or government that can do it alone. “We are very much appreciative of the contribution rendered by The Gambia Banker Association and we will continue to create conducive environment for the private sector to operate in this country,” she said.
In response, the president of the Gambia Banker Association who is also the Managing Director Access Bank thanked Almighty Allah for his protection over everyone and away from Covid-19.
Most importantly, on behalf of the association he appreciated the president of the Republic of The Gambia for all the action taken along with the directives given in regard to the residents, essential and non-essential workers in the country.
“We want to appreciate the government of The Gambia for all the work that they are doing to keep the land safe. We further recognized The Gambia leader’s effort and we appreciate what the government is doing and as member of the private sector particularly banks,” he said.
He added further that the association come together to support and partner with the government to fight the pandemic and assured of their further support to the government to chase out Covid-19 from the country.
