Ward councilor warns BAC to use council’s budget on important development

By Yusupha Jobe

The Gunjur ward councilor has advised his fellow BAC council members to prioritize and utilize the council’s budget in most needed development areas instead of issuing contracts on unimportant projects.

Momodou Charreh Gibba in an open letter addressed to his council members and management of Brikama Area Council has warned against issuing of million dalasis contract to CITY SENZE, a company earlier alleged of been given contract by the council to install solar street lights along Jabang-Jambanjelle highway.

In the letter he states that

“I wish to draw the attention of my fellow councilors and the tax payers that the issue of the famous CITY SENZE is coming back to Brikama Area Council.

“If we can remember the council once acted to award contract to the company that will provide CCTV cameras, WIFI and solar streets light at an amount of over D20 million per annum. This has attracted a fierce debate in the council until youths in the region attempted to occupy the council by protest.

“The same company has changed their name to Z- ENERGY with the same contact person. The contract when given might cost the council to a tune of D13, 163,500 every year. We have most important prioritize development areas to focus as a council than putting WIFI and CCTV cameras on the streets. Our people need roads access, proper waste management system, clean drinking water and good health care provision.”

The Councilor again warned the Council to only make expenditures on projects limited to the allocated funds available in the budget as provided by its line Ministry and avoid issuing contract that will cost the tax payers millions of dalasis.

“We have a budget line that we should follow as a council and not giving contract that will risk the livelihood of the tax payers. Our line Ministry, upon approving the 2020 budget has emphasized the need to spend judiciously according to the budget. We should know whether the beautification of Sukuta-Jambanjelly road is in our priority lists. We should equally know whether our 2020 budget has catered for streets lightening,” he states in the letter.
