Khadija Foundation based in London Tuesday donated 30 bags of 20kg of rice and 20 litter gallon of cooking oil to Wheelbarrow Owners at Bakoteh, Tipper Garage as their annual ‘IFTAR- Food aid.’
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Jabbie representative of Khadija Foundation gave a background of the Wheelbarrow Owners.
He explained that member of the association which always referred to as ‘borrom push-push’ is the same people that are making the Gambia’s economic to grow.”
He added that “women coming from different place for trading in Serrekunda around 4:00am are helping by the wheelbarrow owners to carry their goods from one place to another.”
By God willing, he said Khadija Foundation will continue to give support to wheelbarrow Owners as they are people that are benefitting from their own sweats.
“The Foundation for the last couple of years has been giving out ‘IFTAR’, but this year is more serious because of covid-19 in The Gambia,” he said.
According to him, he said Kadijah Foundation with their trustee and founder in London, Fracial Saman has decided giving out large quantity of bags of rice instead of bags of sugar hence rice is the stable food in the country.
This year they are distributing 700 bag of rice in The Gambia against their normal distribution which included Senegal and Guinea Bissau. He said this is due to the closure of border.
He revealed that Khadija Foundation will also extend their benevolent to Daro Busumbala, Sirra Women, Pirang Lamin Women to assist them.
Yankuba Dembele, a wheelbarrow owner who spoke on behalf of his fellow members, commended KHADIJA Foundation for given them such a support in this hardship time.
