Water shortage hit Bantanding Tukulor

Acute shortage of water supply has seriously affected the livelihood and health of women and children in Bantanding Tukulor.

According to the present situation of the village, the hand pump broke down over two years ago and since then the settlement of Bantanding Tukulor used poor quality water whilst herders travel 4 kilometers daily to access water.

As it becomes severity, the residents of Bantanding Tukulor, Jokadou thereby launched an appeal to Department of Water Resources to help them at least with a borehole to address the acute water shortage in the area.

In an interview with The Voice Ousman Sallah, Chairman of Village Development Committee VDC said lack of quality water supply hindered development, health of women and children in the community. He said there is only one open well in the Village of which peoples used animals to draw water from the well for domestic use.

Mamud Sallah, community leader said the absent of quality water poised a biggest threat to good health of the people in the area, taking into consideration regular wash of hand under running water to prevent the spread of the COVID19. He disclosed that refilling hand washing tank for COVID19 has become a big challenge for women as the well dries up easily.

On her part, Maimuna Sallah complained of early rise from sleep by women to start the daily chaos as they walk long distance to fetch water for their household and other daily usage.

Momodou Leigh among other farmers and herders gave their daily experience in search of water on daily basis.

He indicated that cattle farmer’s travel 4kilometers to Kerr Omar Saine to enable their cattle have water to drink from the trough while they pay D400 per herds on a monthly basis to the trough owners.

The Development Committee Chairperson of Bantanding Tukulor opined that the lack of borehole compounds their animal rearing problems.
