The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of a man who allegedly kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl.
A family in New Jeshwang on 11th April raised the alarm that their daughter had gone missing after been sent on an errand. The girl was seen one week later.
It has now emerged that the girl was in the custody of Bakau resident, Alagie Ousman Ceesay but alleged by the the girl’s family that the man had raped her.
Police spokesman Lamin Njie confirmed to local online newspaper on Thursday that the incident was first reported at Ebo Town Police Post.
“An investigation began into the circumstances of her disappearance,” the police spokesman said.
He added that “The police later received information about the girl been found in Bakau.
“The suspect Ala Ceesay under whose custody the girl was, already arrested and currently helping our investigations.”
