Students of higher institutions in The Gambia have applauded and welcomed the online classes which they found interesting but the poor and weak network remains big obstruction to the progress of the classes.
Introduction of the online classes for students of tertiary institutes is meant to substitute and keep student busy in this stay at home period, one of the measures taking by the government to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
In an interview with some of the university students, Modou Lamin Jang said for the classes to register a success, there is need to improve on the internet connection. “If we have better internet connection it is a very good idea and project. We have been having some breakdown due to poor internet connection since we started, ” he disclosed.
He added that sometime the network will go off and because of this reason they cannot have their class effectively as they want.
As per how the online lecture goes, he said they have access to ask questions which he found interesting, also, he noted that there is a speaker that always shows on the phone that anyone that want to ask questions will turn on and the teacher will respond to the question without no problem.
Jeng disclosed that students were also given extra Megabytes for their personal research which is different from the one given for the online classes.
Lamin Jarju another student said he normally uses Wi-Fi but when the power goes off the internet connection he uses will become weak in their area.
He added that since begin of the online classes there have been breakdown due to poor internet connection.
Meanwhile, he said the classes are quite interactive because they have access to ask questions or contributes.
However many other students lamented on the same poor internet connection receiving from the GSM operators which made many of them to preferred normal classes which they will feel the physical teaching.
