The Gambia National Fundraiser for COVID-19 has commenced its latest and biggest food items distribution in the rural areas to needy families.
The team, Gambia National Fundraiser for Covid-19, was formed by a group of leading Gambians engage in fundraising both at home and abroad for the needy and underprivileged people in The Gambia.
The food items currently distributing by the team include, bags of rice, onions, sugar and cooking oil and it will be distributed among 250 families in Foni and Kiang.
Speaking at the presentation, Essa Faal, member of the Fundraiser team said Covid-19 pandemic will hit the poorest and the most vulnerable more than any other section of the society as they usually do not have anyone to help.
As the spread of the virus continue globally, he said by the time help will get to underprivileged people it might be too late hence no one has idea when the pandemic will come to an end.
Mr Faal disclosed that, most people (in Africa) can’t afford nor do not have the luxury of buying monthly groceries in bulk like some people in the West.
Comment further on the items, he disclosed to them that the money spent on the food items were not contributed his pocket only but from other individual fundraisers in and outside The Gambia.
He echoed it to them that there is nothing like politics or tribalism attach to it as they are doing it to help the needy families in this difficult time.
In conclusion, he urged the beneficiaries to pray for the donors who have contributed in the fundraising.
