State Intends To Call Three More Witnesses
When the case resumed before Justice Jaiteh, AM Yusuf announced his appearance for the State along with M Sowe while barrister Abdoulie Sissoho pronounced his representation for the suspect, Yankuba Touray.
The Senior State Counsel informed the court about the effort made by the Truth Reconciliation Reparation Commission (TRRC) to provide the recorded testimony of the State Witness, Alagie Kanyi who has earlier testified before the Commission and explained his participation in the murder of the former junta Minister of Finance, Ousman ‘Koro’ Ceesay and eight others during the November 11 incident.
Prosecutor Yusuf confirmed that the Commission is putting more effort to provide the recorded statement of Mr Kanyi as they continue their search, arguing that the statement will be available as soon as the Commission is done with their search.
During the previous proceeding, lawyer for Mr Touray applied for the production of the recorded evidence of Alagie Kanyi and the previous criminal case file involving the state and his client, the application which was granted by the court.
The suspect, Yankuba is being on a single count of murder for his alleged participation in the murder of Ousman ‘Koro’ Ceesay who mysteriously died in June 1995 while serving as the then Minister of Finance under the military junta’s government. Mr Touray however refused to take his plead when he appeared before the court, citing constitutional immunity.
The State acting Chief Prosecutor had earlier informed the court about their intention to call seven witnesses during the trial and so far, only six witnesses have testified since the commencement of the trial in June last year.
The trial judge had also made similar declaration for his intention to deliver judgment in the trial by July this year.
