Indian Community Donates Food Items to Vulnerable Member of Society

The Indian Community in The Gambia Sunday donateed 250 bags of food items to the needy people in fight of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr Bharat Bajal member of the Indian community said the distribution of the food parcels will benefit over 2000 families in the country.

“This initiative is supported by members of the Indian Social and Cultural Association to fight against Covid-19 and as well support the less privileged in the society in this hard situation,” he added.

According to him, recently the Indian Community made their first donation to the Ministry of Health. He said the donated items to the Ministry of Health that amounted to over D600,000 sanitary products, medical supplies and food items while the present distribution of food parcels commenced early last week and already, it has benefited 500 families.

Mrs.Ndey Gaye a beneficiary said she is lucky to be part of the people receiving the donation and expressed gratitude to the Indian community for such a gesture.

Narrating her situation, she said she lost her husband and now stay with the family. So, she added, in this hard time for her and the entire family “this food items will contribute a lot in my family and it will serve us a long way.”

She therefore called on other nationals residing in The Gambia to emulate the Indian community because many people in the country cannot afford basic food commodities in this difficult situation.
