The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has said government is committed to support decent work as well as supporting all constituents in building up laws -institutions among others.
Bai Lamin Jobe, Minister of Trade made this remark on Friday during the home stay workers’ day celebration.
Delivering his statement he said “The government stands ready to support all constituents in building up the laws -institutions and practice of ‘tritheism’ and decent work for all,” he said.
He however said: “The pandemics has hit almost all African countries, and the world at large it appears poise worsen dramatically with the Gambia being no exception.”
According to him, the effects on employment will be substantial, saying “reports have shown thousands of jobs mainly in the informal sector could disappear.”
Meanwhile, The Gambia’s Workers Union wrote a petitioned letter to the Barrow-led administration.
Speaking on behalf of the country’s Workers Union, Ebrima Garba Cham, the Union’s secretary general, said: “The letters are requested for urgent support to those, types of all kinds of workers affected by the lockdown.”
The country, this year celebrated the day in homes as the novel coronavirus continues to tear through the world killing thousands of people. The deadly virus has put many businesses across the global in standstill leaving millions of labourers on the verge jobless.
