The Association of Wood Re-Exporters and Forest Users in The Gambia have distributed D500 thousand food items to its members as effort to encouraging them to stay at home amid the deadly coronavirus pandemic as the State of Public Emergency is observe.
The food aid includes 165 bags rice of 50kg and 150 bags sugar of 50kg.
Speaking prior the distribution of the items to the members the group’s chairman Lamin Barrow, described the support to members as a milestone in encouraging members to stay at home amid the pandemic as declared by the government.
“We all know you cannot call it a nation building without people having sufficient food in their various homes, and we all know 2020 is a very difficult year for everybody globally,” he said.
According to him, 99% of his group’s members depend on trade and “we know Covid-19 has affected almost all kind of trade globally that‘s the reason the executive of the association come together to see how best to assist the members.”
Mr Barrow said the objective of this association is not only in profit making entity but to add their quarter to national development, adding that another objective was to look at the condition of members.
He disclosed that the group also contributed D50,000 to the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in fight against the covid-19.
