Coronavirus: Ahmadiyya Jamaat extends largesse to BCC, KMC

The Ahmadiyya Jamaat on Tuesday donated foodstuffs worth D2880,100.00 to Banjul City Council and Kanifing Municipal Council amid of coronavirus pandemic and as well to ease the burden of people in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The donation ceremony was held in two places – Banjul City Council and Kanfing Municipal Council respectively.

The donated foodstuffs to BCC were 60 bags of 25kg rice, 60 (1)litter bottles of oil, 30 bags of 18kg onion and 12 bags of 50kg of sugar. From this items 10 bags of rice, 10 (1) liter bottles of oil, 5 bags of onion and 2 bags of sugar were given to Ferry terminal.

In KMC the foodstuffs donated were 203 bags of 25kg of rice, 225 1 liter bottles of oil, 80 bags of 18kg onion and 35 50kg of sugar.

From the donates food items KMC given 50 bags of rice, 50 1 liter bottles of oil, 25 bags of onion and 10 bags of sugar.
And organization for Social Development and Inclusion for Person with Disability (OSDIVI) were given 30 bags of rice, 15 1 liters bottles of oil, 15 bags of onion, and 6 bags of sugar, individual family within KMC region were also given 93 bags of rice, 103 1 liters bottles of oil, 25 bags of onion and 15 bags of sugar. Also, neighbors within the Ahmadiyya Jamaat received 30 bags of rice, 30 1 liters bottles of oil, 15 bags of onion and 4 bags of sugar.

Speaking at the presentations, held in both BCC and KMC’ offices, the Amir of Ahmadiyya Jamaat, Baba Trawally said they made the donation of the foodstuffs in response to the situation at hand in the country.

“We have been hearing and seeing the impact of ciovid-19 in the country, we therefore donate these items to the people of Banjul and KMC,” he disclosed.

According to him in this month of Ramadan, as Muslims we should extend hands by giving support to the needy because it is an essential month that brings us together and closer to Allah.

Speaking on behalf of the Lord Mayor of Banjul City Council Omar Touray, Deputy Mayor BCC said “this is not the first time of Ahmadiyya Jamat to do this because they have been giving aid to people especially to Muslims.”

He applauded them and said the food items will be very helpful to the people of Banjul in this Holy Month of Ramadan especially with the State of Public Health Emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Receiving the foodstuffs in Kanifing Municipal Council, Ahmad Taalib Bensuda Lord Mayor of KMC commended the Ahmadiyya Jamaat for the gesture.

He said Ahmadiyya Jamat has been so supportive to KMC in all aspects.
The Lord Mayor disclosed that some of the items will be given to Garden women within the KMC.
Meanwhile the youth wing of Ahmadiyaa has donated 10 bags of 25kg rice, 3bags of 18kg of onion, 10bags of 50kg of sugar and 10 (1) liter of oil.

However the total amount of the donated items to both BCC and KMC at large cost Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand, One Hundred Dalasis (D 280, 100.00), and Ahmadiyaa have been donating food items around the country since the inception of covid-19.
