At least One Hundred and Sixty-eight young people (168) who have completed their vocational training courses in skills acquisition at Gaye Njorro Skills Academy had to wait until next year to graduate due to emergence of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
The Gambia is among the countries in the world battling with the virus since its emergence in in Wuhan, China in December 2019 while The Gambia has registered 23 cases.
Since the establishment of the skills center in 2009 it has trained two thousand and four hundred young people in hairdressing.
But a number of 168 people who have completed their courses this year at the center are now expected to graduate next year because the Covid-19 pandemic has plunged the World into standstill.
Fatou Saine, chief executive officer of Gaye Njorro Skills Academy said “we are to graduate 168 students but we couldn’t do that this year because of the Covid-19.”
