A former media officer of coalition 2016 and political aide to President Barrow has rubbished recent claimed made by the APRC spokesperson that his party is ready to form an opposition alliance with UDP just to unseat President Barrow in 2021 presidential elections.
EnssaDampha, in an interview with an online TV Kerr Fatu following his reactions to a recent statement made by the deputy spokesperson of the Alliance for Patriotic, Reorientation and Construction (APRC) DodouJah, was quoted on media as saying his party is willing to form an alliance with their long-term political rivals, United Democratic Party (UDP) just to remove the incumbent in the 2021 presidential elections.
He argued that both former President Jammeh and the leadership of the United Democratic Party (UDP) would never allow such an alliance of two long-term rival oppositions parties to happen in the first place while mentioning that APRC and (UDP) were never in a good political term of the country’s history which he said can allow a possible formation a coalition between the parties.
“I am not seeing any possibility of (UDP) and (APRC) forming an alliance just to unseat President Barrow during 2021 presidential elections. These are the most rival political parties ever in the county’s political party history. So both former President Jammeh and leadership of UDP will never allow such a coalition to occur in the first place,” he said.
He further stated that even there is a possibility among opposition parties of the country to form a coalition agreement against President Barrow, said the National People’s Party can never be shaken by any sort of opposition alliance come 2021 elections adding President Barrow is being backed by the people.
“Even if there is an alliance among opposition parties for the coming presidential elections this I can assure that no group of opposition parties can shake or unseat President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP),” he argued.
He said NPP is a grass root political party that has already won the support of the majority of citizens adding Gambians were the ones who asked for the registration of NPP as a political party.
“Gambians were the ones who seek President Barrow to form his political party. So this is simply telling you the type of grass root support the party has gain,” he stated.
